Kinshasa, 29 April 2024
The Democratic Republic of the Congo national electoral commission organized, this Monday 29 April 2024, the senatorial and governors’ elections in twenty One (21) peaceful provinces instead twenty six (26).
During these elections, the President Félix Tshisekedi’s camp has logically prevailed over the entire process as they made an unbeatable force around their “Union Sacrée”, a political platform sustaining the Head of State.
If some opponents (very few indeed) were voted as senators, the twenty one voted governors are coming form the coalition force, even if some theoretically represented themselves like independents.
As a matter of fact, many DRC officials or their representatives won the race. In Kinshasa for example, Daniel Bumba Lubaki who is coming form UDPS (the president’s political party) has been elected as the new gouvernor, with his deputy Eddy Iyeli.
On the list of senators, mentioned can made of the former Prime Minister Jean Michel Sama Lukonde, the outgoing Kinshasa governor Gentiny Ngobila, the former Senat president Modeste Bahati…
On the other side, the former Prime minister Augustin Matata Ponyo Mapon who also applied in Kindu (Maniema province) lost simply because his political party only had one voter.
Here is the list of the twenty one newly elected governors:
- Moïse Moussa Kabwankubi (Maniema)
- Banza Mulume (Upper Lomami)
- Jean Bakomito (Upper Uele)
- Jean Paul Mbwembwa (Western Kasaï )
- Fifi Masuka Saini (Lualaba)
- Christian Kitungwa (Tanganyika)
- Jacques Kyabula (Upper Katanga)
- Crispin Mukendi (Kasaï)
- Kalombo Musoko Iron van (Lomami)
- Paulin Lendongolia (Tshopo)
- Grace Bilolo (Kongo central)
- Willy Bitwisila (Kwango)
- Joseph Moise Kambulu (Central Kasaï)
- Victor Kitenge (Sankuru)

- Armand Lyamba (Tshuapa)
- Willy Bitwisila (Kwango)
- Michée MOBONGA LOBO (South Ubangi)
- Crispin Mukendi wa Bukasa (Kasai)

- Second turn required between Jean Jacques Purusi and Émile Sumaïli for South Kivu
According to the national electoral commission, the remaining provinces ( North Ubangi, Ecuador, Mayi Ndombe, Ituri and North Kivu will organize these elections as the situation will evolve.
It should be noted that this high score accomplished by the ruling political class is not surprising. They already have a total control over the parliament with more than 400 members out of 500.
