Kinshasa, 29 May 2024
It took long! Four months since Felix Tshisekedi was sworn in for his second term after this massive election in December 2023. The first and historical gouvernement ruled by a woman ( Prime minister Judith Suminwa Tuluka) was finally unveiled in the early hours of this Wednesday, 29 May 2024.
Thought President Tshisekedi was expected to take into account the population’s opinion to decrease the government size which was claimed to be greedy in terms of expenses, the new government is made of 54 members in comparison with the previous one that counted 57. A fact that is already being much commented.
Supposed to be composed of members from the “Union Sacrée pour la nation” (sacred union for the nation), a political platform sustaining the president and having absolute majority in the parliament, the new government has an exception with Constant Mutamba, an opponent. The leader of the “Congo Dynamic Progressive Opposition” platform has been appointed Minister of Justice.
Another particularity with Suminwa’s government is that it has tried to enhance gender equality with a considerable presence of women. 18 ladies representing almost 32% have been appointed.
If most political leaders have either kept their positions or sent to another ministry, the case of Jean Pierre Bemba who went from defense to transport, Modeste Bahati is the greatest absent in this government. The powerful leader of AFDC will try to grab a position in the Upper house as he was elected senator.
