The leading bureau of the Democratic Republic of the Congo National Assembly was elected on Wednesday 22 May 2024. Ruled by Vital Kamerhe, this bureau has a particularity to enhance gender equality with three women out of 7 members, that is 43%.
Following president Tshisekedi’s recommandations to promote competent women to all decisions making organs, all the female candidates were promoted by the members of parliament.
Dominique Munongo, Chimène Polipoli and Grace Neema, the DRC parliament bureau womankind
This is innovative, thanks to Félix’ Tshisekedi’s commitment to gender equality. The DRC parliament bureau has never counted three women.
Dominique Munongo: Deputy reporter (the only opponent in the bureau).
Member of parliament elected from Lubudi in Lualaba province, she did social studies. Coordinator of women’s league at Moïse Katumbi’s party Ensemble pour la république (Together for the republic), she was a burgomaster at Likasi township. Human rights activist with much commitment for women promotion, she also fights against poverty and corruption.
Chimène Polipoli: Quaestor
Member of parliament elected from Malembe-Nkulu in High Lomami province, she is graduate in international relationships. Assistant and Doctorant at Lubumbashi university, she was a vice governor of High Lomami and administrative at the central bank.
Grâce Neema : Deputy Quaestor
Member of parliament elected from Ango in Lower Uele province.
It should be noted that Félix Tshisekedi confirmed to be the champion of positive masculinity after appointing Judith Tuluka as Prime minister in April 2024 (the first woman I the history of the country) . Now that the parliament is effective, we can expect Tuluka’s gouvernent release very soon since the country has many issues to sort out.
